Onam's History

On 15th August 2006 on the way to “Lake District ” a group of  youngsters , discussed the need of having an “ active Association” in Newcastle.  Mr. Paulson John suggested the name as ONAM (Our Newcastle Association of Malayalee ).

The first meeting of the invited people gathered in Mr. Sanju George’s House (4, Genester Place, Fenham) on 19th August 2006 . The following people present in discussion.

With detail discussion we (above mentioned people ) have decided to form ONAM Association. The main objectives are as follows.

·        To develop cultural and social unity among the Newcastle malayalees.

·        To celebrate our national festivals “Onam, Christmas, Easter “ as a community.

·        To organize outdoor and indoor entertainment programs.

·        To help each other among “ Kerala Community” in their needs.

·        To develops cultural and Musical talents in our children.

It is decided to celebrate our national festival Onam as our first program and inauguration of  our ONAM association on 09th September 2006. at Fenham community hall .
